Nestled between Santa Barbara and LA, the City of Ventura has become a destination for many. A City that arguably was once a sleepy little beach town that few frequented, is no longer a secret. As a result, home prices have soared in recent years. Surprisingly though, Ventura is still one of the most affordable Southern California beach towns, with plenty to do and see on any given day. This special City maintains its “laid back” local vibe, friendly demeanor and special pocket of pristine coastline. New businesses are popping up every day, adding to the city’s zest.
Ventura’s hillsides provide many unique local hikes. Enjoy a hike through the Harmon Canyon Preserve where you may even cross a few streams on your way up during Spring months. After, grab a coffee at Singing Sun before heading to breakfast at Petes Breakfast House. Explore Timbre Bookstore, also located nearby. Grab a beer at Topa Topa Brewery on Colt street, or MadeWest, both locally owned favorites.
For another hiking alternative, hike the Arro Verde park loop, or explore the Ventura Botanical Gardens, closer to downtown. Mexican food staples include Corrales on Thompson and Beach House Tacos on the Pier. Bike the coastline by starting at Marina Park and looping all the way up to the famous surf break “C-Street” grabbing Oysters along the way at The Jolly Oyster. If your exploring downtown, grab a drink (and the cheese plate is a must) at Fluid State and then dinner at Model Citizen or Rum Fish.
Wherever you choose to explore, Ventura is sure to entertain!
